A wonderful city

five stars

Made my first ever visit to Paris and found the city to be one of the best that I have ever seen. I found the people to be very friendly and helpful and the Metro was easy to use and the best way to get around. I will be going back again.

paris in the autumn

four stars

we stayed about 35 minutes outside paris and caught the clean and reasonably inexpensive train into the city. the first thing that struck us was how incredibly clean everywhere seemed to be, compared with the dustbin that london is. The french obviously take great pride in the appearance of their capital, shame we don't do the same. Drinks and food are expensive but then again it is a capital city. It seems patriotism is rife in france,, especially paris, tricolours seem to fly everywhere and their war dead are also seriously honoured. If you are not going on an organised tour do your homework before you go as it is a big city and if doing it on foot as we largely did plan your route in advance as we didn't. my advice for visiting paris is ; 1. learn some basic french phrases i think they appreciate the effort. 2. dress well for paris to avoid looking like a tourist {it is a stylish city} 3. take a packed lunch stacks of places to enjoy a picnic 4. tell the eastern european scammers 'non' and walk on they'll move straight on to the next sucker 5. thoroughly enjoy this pretty, ornate, beautiful city.

The reviews praising paris must have been planted by the French tourist board

one star

I have just returned from a 3 day break in Paris and would not go back is you paid me. It was the worst holiday I have ever experienced. I asked for 2 petite beers and was given 2 pints costing 18 euros, the food was very average and looking at the kitchen staff none were trained chefs and after you have seen 5 or 6 french bars and bistros you have seen the lot. The Metro is also a dangerous place as dodgy looking characters are hanging around everywhere and wait till you get on the train before jumping off just as the doors close. If you could just fly in and board the open air tour bus, see the main attractions and leave it would be fine. This is an my honest opinion as my very mild mannered wife's opinion would be heavily censored. If you are thinging of going to Paris DON'T it truly is la citie du mer**

Paris

four stars

My recent holiday with two of my young kids to Paris was quite horrdenous, meaning the attitude of Paris habitants and manners were awful, with my lack of French speaking skills, they took that as a reason of disliking me and my kids. I found it quite surprising as seeing as Paris is one of the most popular and beautiful cities in the world, you think it would be expected to have beautiful and politeful people there too. Anyways Disneyland was a delightful experience.

Go see it, don't think about the expense, there you've done it, now move on.

three stars

The sights are as impressive as you would imagine. Sacre Couer, Notre Dame, Pont Neuf at night, Eiffel Tower. Meals are reasonable, but a coffee at any of the tourist destinations is 6Euro which just spoils the whole experience for me. So - I would recommend a combined TGV/Hotel deal with B&B, make sure you are refreshed when you set out in the morning and carry some water. Take your drinks with meals. Just do 2 or 3 attractions and do them thoroughly. I want to go back to spend a full day at the Louvre and inside Notre Dame. Not really bothered if I never get round to it though.

i went to paris with mi school, it wasnt bad, there was long queues for the eifel tower and a lot of steps for the arc de trionphe. but other than tht it was brilliant we went to the eifel tower (right to the top) and the arc de triomphe(right to the top) and loads of other places we also went to disney land paris. it was really fun its great for children and adult they got different rides for all ages and they got disney characters there and u can get autographs and most people in paris are very polite. i enjoyed it very much.

cold wet windy yet still ok

three stars

I thought i would put on a more recent review on here as just returned from Paris for 3 nights in March 2008. Weather was cold and wet and spoiled it - as its not much fun getting wet and cold! however despite this visited most of the tourist places and found it interesting and fun. Becuase of the bad weather all the sensible people were indoors so relatively quiet didnt have to queue to see attractions. Would recommend to anyone. Food quite average. Best Meal was a Chinese! It was expensive ie coffee 4 euros but expected that so no surprise. Managed to get by on my school girl french and was understood which was a a plus. Would I go again? Maybe but when it was warmer.

Really amazing and extremely beautiful city

five stars

I loved everything, the people, the food, the scenery, the atmosphere, the shops. Paris is really easy to get to by plane or train and the transport system in Paris is very good and efficient. I can't wait to go back.

Beautiful city . . . you can't appreciate it properly unless you've been there

five stars

I really love Paris its got such charm and charisma. I could easily write an analytical biography of France . . . But I'll save you the essay. The first initial thing you look for when you enter Paris is the Eiffel Tower (naturally). This magnificent structure gives breathtaking views once at the top if you have the nerve and courage to actually get to the top. Of course queuing up is busy but well worth it. The Notre Dam is maybe something you would think of bypassing, but speaking from experience (and being literally dragged in by my parents!) I really quite liked it. Even amongst all of the visitors I found it really peaceful and fascinating even, although at the time I didn't admit this to my parents! (teenage pride . . . adults don't understand). Mont Matre hmmmmm for one of the most beautiful views in Paris I would recommend it but all of those steps . . . . no I'm kidding I was just a lazy bones when I went. The artists offer very reasonable prices for minors as well of adults and they really astonished me with each of their individual talents and styles they were amazing! The church of Mont Matre itself well I didn't go in I do have to confess, it is in a rather unlikely place though . . looking over the red light district!! But it is not as you would imagine it has more class than you would desire to imagine. I really enjoyed Paris I wish I had stayed there longer. I am really thinking of studying there in the future. I feel more at home there than I do in my home land of England and I will challenge anyone who disagrees.

Magnifique

four stars

Was there short time... for those who like to take in sights and smells upclose, the city isn't too huge, so it's great for walkers. Budget travel may be a bit challenging, but doable. Parisians are approachable and are generally helpful- especially with my ailing French. Thankfully, most of those who I encountered spoke English reasonably well.Safety wise... lone travellers may be 'propositioned' with a fling in the city of romance... so be careful. It's a historical, beautiful city and it's easy to see why people fall in love with it. It indeed is "all that".
