I visited Dresden at Christmastime. The Christmas Markets and vendors created a beautiful, cozy atmosphere. I found the people of Dresden to be extremely intelligent, aware, and shrude. Although the nightlife seemed a bit, shall I say, missing, I found the architecture itself to be devastating and beautiful. So much history in the building blocks themselves. Dress warmly in the winter months, it is awfully windy and cold. Die Boofe is an excellent, clean, friendly youth hostel, though a bit out of the way, it lived up to the hype. As my first and only trip to Germany, Dresden was a great place to visit if you aren't afraid of being displaced in to a culture that doesn't yet show much signs of the dreaded "Americanization" that has unfortunately wreaked havoc upon countless European cities. Keep an eye out for Gypsy children. Also revel in one of the cleanest, most organized, and intelligent cities you'll probably ever visit.
