Excellent service, very lively city, fantastic atmospher and nightlife! The aareas around the Acropolis rock were like they were taken out of a Greek picturesque village! Cant't wait to go there again sometime soon!

(Report Problem)Went to Singapore, Athens, Rome and Paris on recent holiday. Although I had a great time everywhere, Athens stood out. Sites, food, beer, friendly people everything I could hope for. Already saving to go again.

(Report Problem)I visited athens for a week with my family including mother who has some difficulty walking. I expected a city with an ancient feel to it, like Rome, instead it felt like a noisy rather ugly place with a few sites plonked amidst the high rise buildings. The whole city is very difficult to get around, fine for me, but my mum found it almost painful and dangerous, broken up pavements with cars parked all over them. I always make the effort to be friendly, respectful and learn a few words of a languge. I have never met a more unfriendly, discourteous people than the athenians, do they just hate the brits? although there did seem to be a general air of moodiness. Lowlights include the owner of the apartment where we were staying, who was supposed to be meeting us outside, standing there impassively without a word of welcome and silently ushering us up without offering any help, secondly the taxi driver who lied to us, took us to the wrong place, then tried to con 50 euros out of my brother (for a 5 min journey), the numerous workers at the acropolis who were disinterested and monosyllabic when i asked if there was an easier way for my mother to get up to the top..I'd like to say these were isolated instances, but were on the whole representative..Plaka is full of ridiculously priced tourist tat. On the positive side, using the rough guide, we found some nice, reasonably priced restaurants with very good and friendly service. I would also recommend the boat trip to one of the islands, Poros was nice..If you go to Athens, go for as short a time as possible then escape to an island.

(Report Problem)We spent one day in athens in the very centre on Athens while waiting for a connecting flight. The hotel was called The Jason Prime which was very nice, 4 star in fact. The only problem was the rest of athens all I have to say is it was a 'SHIT HOLE!!!!' And I'll give you the reasons: 1.ALL the surrounding areas were disgusting this area was the 'red light district' by night apparently. 2.It was very dangerous to go out on your own any time of day as people create perfect targets for muggings/pick pockets. 3.It is an ugly concrete place with huge skyscrapers and terrible traffic. 4.On the way into the city you can see all the smog above the city. All i can say is i would not recomend visiting in the winter I don't know what its like at any other time of the year. Thanks for reading my moan Josh

(Report Problem)fantastic city, great nightlife, amazing atmosphere!!!Athens combines culture and entairtenment!!!Just amazing It's a capital so do expect to have some pollution and some places that are dirty (although i must admit tha after the olympics i couldn recognize the improvement!). I felt safe (and i was coming back home at 6 in the morning!) however again it's the capital so be careful!!People are very friendly and if u overcome ur british proper manners!!u can really enjoy their sense of humour (sometimes the body language might seem rude bu believe me, they are mean no harm) Their English were excellent so no language barrier!Bit expensive as a city but the quality u get worth the money!if u want just a beer and low budget food pls dont try Greece..it will be an insult to their culture and standards! just great!!! cheers

(Report Problem)If history is your thing, you might like it. I am sorry but I didn't get it. I won't go back not even if free. The people are nice but after a day at the capital I was less than amuzed. Athens (Acropolis). The transportation system is great.

(Report Problem)Athens is 90% modern concrete ugliness, but it's worth diving deeper and discovering the other 10% - and it's not just the acropolis and other famous treasures, it's the street life in districts like psirri and thissio, it's the warmth of the greek people and it's the surprising byzantine church or roman ruin you discover turning a corner that makes the city a place worth spending some time in.
