A winter wonderland.... perfect for shoppers and party people alike!

five stars

My partner and I spent 4 days in Krakow just before Xmas, and loved every second of our mini-holiday! Each day the beautiful town square hosted a fantastic Christmas Market - selling everything from locally brewed booze to gorgeous hand-crafted jewellery and ornaments... perfect for buying those last minute stocking fillers! And while I shopped, my boyfriend supped potent mulled wine from one of the many giant keg bars... entertainment for all! The town centre is riddled with winding, cobbled streets... each leading to a different tourist attraction. We visited the castle (certainly suitable for the most fussy of princess!) and also the Salt Mine, and Auschwitz Death camps, which are just out of town. Steel yourself for the later of these - but it's an emotional tour which should not be missed! The highlight of our trip however, was most definitely the food! There are hundreds of first rate restaurants to choose from - and a three course meal for two, with flowing wine won't cost you more than about £50! Finish every dinner with a few Polish Vodkas and you're sure to gome home happy at the end of the night!

nice enough

four stars

nice place if a bit conservative and bourgeois. street life very normal. nothing out of the blue happening but v nice archictecture. more could be done to integrate the river-bank into the cultural life of the city. GREAT place for eating/drinking - everything really really cheap it's incredible!

Lovely but haunting city

five stars

Krakow is full of wonderful buildings and friendly, helpful people. Accomodation and food are good value for money and flights from the UK are cheap. Winter is very cold so be warned! Auschwitz - Birkenau is an hours journey (take the bus - it's cheaper and quicker) West of the city and is a must visit. Oskar Schindler's factory is a short walk South of the city and many of the locations used by Spielberg for his film can be seen around the same area. There is an excellent 'Rough Guide' available for the city and Krakow is actually quite small so getting around isn't a problem. I'm looking forward to going back this Winter!

A lovely city but you need to know

four stars

Just come back from 9 days in Krakow. My Partner and I are keen on culture and history. We had gorgeous weather and some nice food. The Salt Mine, The Black Madonna and Aushwitz are well worth a visit but catch a bus or train and dont bother with the very expensive tours advertised. Aushwitz was rather sanitised considering the horrific things that happened there but we had a very good lady Guide. We visited Zacopane that has a lovely all wooden church and a the most fascinating cemetary (I never thought I would ever say that!) The Guides were very variable and most speak terrible English which takes all your concentration to try and understand. Very disappointed that a couple of the most important museums were not open (The National Museum is a must to get an overview of Polands eventful history). We were everywhere in Krakow and met quite a few Poles and have to say that we met only two ladies who were very nice. Krakow relies on its tourism but they are positively rude to you all the time! A Mystery! You will be spoilt for nice restaurants and if you like Art Nouveau then you will really love it. Have a nice time

A City for the Young and the Young At Heart

five stars

Energetic and bivrant city. Enjoy your day in the histoic district at the town square, the royal palace or just sit at an outdoor cafe and watch the energy in this city. Lots to do for both young and old alike. Museums, discos, churches and restaurants are abundant here. Public transportation is simple with the vast network of trams and buses.

A Historical Town

five stars

Krakow is a city with great feeling as well as being home to many interesting sights. It has an excellent program of Music events,in particular with the festival held at Easter. Restaurants and Bars are much better value than elsewhere in Poland. It has a good range of Hotels with some quite exceptional small hotels, Pod Roza and Kopernicus in the old town. Like most parts of Poland you must be constantly on the alert for Pickpockets even on the main rail connection with Warsaw.
