San Francisco is not the most beautiful city in the world in spite of what some say but, like Vancouver, the setting is fine. Fisherman's Wharf gets a bad review in some places, but it is lively and fun, nice buildings, and the WWII submarine and Liberty Ship are very well worth seeing. I don't think that British submarines had a help-yourself ice cream machine in WWII. We also had a very decent and reasonably priced meal on the Wharf. The sea lions are also a free must-see. Jack's Bar, beside the old Del Monte cannery, is a place for the pub lover and beer drinker - if not on hand pump, at least spoilt for choice and good atmosphere. We were lucky to hit Fleet Week and get the free airshow. In all, very good fun, people helpful and pleasant.
