I looked at the "reviews" from people and as a suburbanite who goes to school in the city, let me tell you...stay away! Detroit is a dump, the rumors are all true. Just wait until the Super Bowl gets here...there are only like five hotels in the city, no parking, no mass transportation...but we do have three casinos. Other than the five blocks that make up downtown, there is one other nice part of the city...it's called Windsor, Canada. The only things we have going for us...The stadiums, the casinos...that's it. If you're coming in from out of town and want to see the sights, do this... If you must see the city, go during daylight hours. Don't wander from the highways. If you're not on Woodward Av., stay within the confines of the people-mover, our ghetto version of the "L". It runs around almost all the important infrastructres in the city. Woodward is relatively safe up to Wayne State Univ. Between WSU and 8 Mile....beware. Nightlife: Go to Royal Oak-Ferndale, Birmingham, Ann Arbor, Pontiac, Novi. The places with the best bars, clubs are not in the city itself. And the roads suck! It's like driving on one giant pothole. Trust me on this.
