Summertime in Skagway
The residents are friendly and helpful. Many activies for the sedaite visitor and the active. Very safe community for all ages. Forth of July activies the entire community turns out! Weather best late June through August. To much tourist based shopping. Most personal & speciality items are often purchased in Juneau, Whitehorse-Yukon and by mail or online. No pharmacy. Plan ahead for such items on extended stays. I've spent 8 summer seasons there working. Loved every stay, though I occassional found myself bored. Skagway has lost some of it's charm due to changes along Broadway Historical area. Limited summer housing and accommedations without advanced reservations. Limited eateries also,may have to wait at resident local favorite stops, but it's often worth it!

This is a great place to explore on foot, and good for shopping if you're after Alaskan/gold rush kitsch.

I first came to Skagway, 1950 as a young steward on the Princess Kathleen. We came back in 1991. I like Skagway very much but it so much busier now with tourists. It is a place I hold dear to my memory.
