Daytona is a dump, low-income community

This is a very low-income community. We read in an article that they are the fourth lowest paid county in the State of Florida. If you look up the violent crime and property crime it is higher than both regional and national averages... Unemployment rate exceeds both the regional and national averages (don't take my word for it - log onto bestplaces.net and type in 32114 for the zip code in their neighborhood profile link). Bottom Line: Lock your doors!!! However drive south on Nova Road and check out the Daytona Housing Authority Low-Income Rent Facilities. Impressive! The air quality is extremely low. Whatever you do try to hold your breath if you drive to Orlando from Daytona - their landfill alone will make you gasp for fresh air. Can Daytona explain the segregation – it’s almost tribal? They offer Spring Break AND they offer Black Spring Break, They offer Embry Riddle University and they offer Black Bethune College. They offer Bike Week which basically includes the entire county and a week later they offer Black Bike Week, down off of 2nd Street in Daytona… its darn right pathetic! Our biggest tip if you feel you must visit this community: We learned a valuable lesson when visiting this community. Always check out the bathroom first. If it’s not clean – the food is sure to be lousy – even if it’s a fast food restaurant. No kidding. If it’s clean – take a chance. We found a Jacks sandwich shop in the Downtown Daytona which was truly second-to-none. Happy kind folks; great meal for a great price!

A Review of Daytona Beach written by a Daytona resident

Daytona Beach is an overall good place to spend your Florida vacation. Miles of nice, drive-on beaches, it is home to the Daytona International Speedway. It is near Orlando and all its attractions, and also a short forty minute drive to Kennedy Space Center (where all American manned space missions have been launched, might I add). There are lots of hotels along the beach (the majority of hotels in the Daytona area ARE on the beach), and also lots more near the ocean in nearby Ormond Beach. The weather is moderate all year round, and there are family activities on the Boardwalk and in Daytona Lagoon, formerly known as Adventure Landing (at 601 Earl Street, next to the Ocean Center). It has a waterpark, arcade, lazer tag, mini golf, go-karts, and more. There are also lots of golf courses and mini golf courses all around the area. Are you a racing fan?Daytona USA is the 'Ultimate Motorsports Attraction', with frequent tours of the most famous racetrack in the world. It has lots of racing memorabillia, and it's very fun, even for families that don't really care for racing. Great for families overall. Seaside Music Theater, the Ocean Center, and the Peabody Auditorium also have great entertainment. Not too many nightclubs, although there are a few on Seabreeze Blvd.

pathetic beach

if your expecting a great time even a good time don't come to daytona. this place was a complete dissapointment. yeah sure there was water and waves coming in from the ocean that was to be expected of nature. the beach was and ugly construction sand brown with pebbles. there wasnt anything happening on the beach worth staying for. the hotels all of them way overpriced the food too for that matter and it was'nt that good. the food was'nt anything to brag about and the people were sad because it is a sad place to be. what the heck was all the hipe on t.v. about coming here. you never know something 'till you find out for yourself.

daytona great location

great beach -great location to veg out when you just want to hang out -great location to hit the attractions -just watch the ratings on all resturants -some are nasty -e-colli just waiting to happen

Fantastic

I liked everything. The ocean views. The neverending beach-the fact that you could drive on the beach. The food was very good.

The Party Place

I lived and worked in Daytona for a year and loved the beaches, would go back again and would recommend the beaches, hotels and resturants to many people. Great place for fresh sea food. Can not eat what they call fresh in the grocery stores here in SC. NOT!

Historic Downtown Daytona Beach

Stroll one of the loveliest historic downtowns in all of florida. Afternoon shade and gentle ocean breeze makes this very comfortable even in the heat of the summer. Called Riverfront Marketplace, downtown Daytona offers a variety of shopping and eating experiences..

Daytona is Great!

I love the beach it's huge and the sand is great not nasty like other beaches.It's also a great place to stay on Spring Break, not as crazy as Panama but you can still have fun! It's a short driving distance to the theme parks in Orlando. My family has been to the Hawaiian Inn 6 times. We LOVE it, indoor and outdoor pools, tiki hut, hammocks, pool overlooks the ocean, free putt putt golf, great resturants in the hotel, great prices. What else could I say?? The boardwalk is also a good place to visit lots of stuff to do there. There are great souvenir shops all down the strip. Great resturants!

DAYTONA BEACH IS THE BEST PLACE FOR FAMILY VACATIONS!I HAVE BEEN THERE EVERY YEAR SINCE I WAS BORN AND I'M 12!MY FAMILY ALSO LOVES IT.I GAVE THE SAFETY 4 STARS BECAUSE WE DID HAVE A LITTLE TROUBLE THERE.ONE YEAR WE STAYED AT DESERT INN AND SOMEONE BROKE INTO OUR ROOM BUT DIDN'T TOUCH ANYTHING.IT WAS PROBABLY JUST SOME TEENAGERS MESSING AROUND.ALSO ONE DAY MY MOM,DAD AND I WERE IN THE VAN AND MY MOMS WINDOW WAS DOWN AND WHEN WE WERE AT A RED LIGHT SOME GUY JUST CAME UP TO HER WINDOW AND STARED IN.IT GAVE MY MOM QUITE A SCARE.MY DAD SAID HE PROBABLY WANTED MONEY.SO BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT.KEEP YPUR DOORS LOCKED!!!,ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A WOMAN WHO'S ALONE!!!!!BE CAREFUL! BUT OVERALL I WOULD GIVE DAYTONA BEACH 5 STARS BECAUSE IT IS VERY FUN AND THERE IS LOTS OF THING TO DO AND PLACES TO EAT!!!!!!! MAY I ALSO RECOMEND GOING TO THE BOARDWALK! Apparently the powers in the local government have decided to let Daytona Beach just deteriorate and become a worn out dump. Too bad, it used to be a nice vacation place.
