I greatly looked forward to our evening's dining in the Danieli. We started the evening with drinks downstairs in the lounge of the old building. It was beautiful and the service charming, friendly, and basically spot on. They made us feel special and started the evening perfectly. Unfortunately the restaurant is ina much later addition and boasts jaded and poor taste 70's /80's decor. The service was courteous but with that indefinably poisonous whiff of dismissive arrogance. I must say that my Seppie al nero was superb the best ever but my wife's guinea fowl was basically rubbish. The service was arrogant and mediocre and the "cheese plate" was basically rubbish and given its price, insulting. All I can say is that the original building of the Danieli is pure style but if you want warm , friendly, stylish, and respectful service if maybe without the entrance hall architecture....not to mention a cheese TROLLEY to die for... go to the Cipriani. They understand how to make you feel special, serve special food and like you just want to go back.
