Located about an hour from San Jose, this forest reserve is full of every type of bird, and if you are lucky you might see some of their bright plumage among the shadows. One can walk alone or with a guide, or even camp out in the forest for a very reasonable price. Various travel agencies in the city can organize day trips if you do not want to stay in the area. Bring bottled water with you to avoid dehydration. Also bring insect repellent during the rainy season.
