Rodin Museum

Description

This is where Auguste Rodin spent the last years of his life, from 1908 to 1917. Since then, his superb sculptures and private art collection have been housed here. There are a number of sculptures in the garden, including his best-known piece, the Thinker. Trees provide welcome shade and the benches placed beneath make these peaceful surroundings the perfect spot for meditation and relaxation. An annex to this museum; the Villa des Brillants, which the artist bought in 1895 is located in Meudon. Call ahead or check the website for hours of operation. Visitors can also buy a museum passport to visit both the Musée Rodin and Musée d'Orsay on the same day for a reduced ticket price.

Formidable!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
I just returned from a week's holiday in Paris - The Musee Rodin is a must see! The Garden was so beautiful and romantic, the art so moving. This Museum and Garden represented Paris perfectly for all it's beauty, power and grace. I recommend it to all. I will certainly return.

One of the best meuseums ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
Most of the museum is outside which makes for an excellent stroll on a nice day. Very relaxed feel in a great part of town. Much nicer and much more worth while than the more popular Invilades down the street.

Just beautiful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
With so much to see and do in Paris, I would always go back to the Musee Rodin even if I had only one day to spend in Paris. It is definately worth an hour or so of your time.

An oasis of quiet
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
I have been to the Musee Rodin three times and each time is great. Beautiful grounds with the sculptures among the trees and hedges. There is a nice shop to buy a lunch and drinks. Lots of seating in the garden area for a picnic. It is very close to the subway. Nice way to see what a Paris home looked like in the late 19th century.

must-see for rodin fans
By Christina, 07/06/2005
if you call yourself a fan of rodin, you definately have to visit this place. admission is cheap (get the one-day museum pass, to get you free entrance to most museums in paris--if not all) and you get to see most of his famous works (and some of camille claudel's). the garden at the musee rodin is well kept and house some of the sculputer's masterpieces: the thinker, the burghers of calais and gates of hell. words cant describe it, you have to be there to experience it yourself.

p.s. there's another rodin museum located outside paris, at meudon. also the place where rodin is buried along with his wife.

A Must See
By MichaelS, 07/06/2005
Paris has many famous and beautiful museums. One could spend days in the Louvre alone. The Musee Rodin, however, will only take a couple hours of your time. We fell in love with the museum, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Paris.
