Cafe de Olla, Puerto Vallarta

We went into town on Sunday to walk the Malancon. A guy back at the hotel said we should try this place for lunch, so we did. He was so right. They had a grilled fish special on the menu, big enough to feed the 3 of us (2 adults, 1 kid). Two rock lobsters, 7 very large butterflied shrimp, a fillet of fin fish, a twice baked potato with cheese and vegetables, all seasoned wonderfully and grilled just right. I really, really like fresh fish cooked right, and this was one of the best seafood meals I've had in a very long time. Total cost, including beverages - no room for dessert - and tip, $60. Atmosphere was pleasant. Friendly and attentive staff. Go there.

Cafe de Olla was very good. No problem, good food, and prices about same as others. There was a waiting line when we went. I would say it was worth the short wait, but there are plenty of other places that are just as good without lines. However, at least look at the cooking area, which is right next to the sidewalk. You'll probably end up in the line waiting to get in.

We had the best time at Cafe de Olla. We've been back to Puerto Vallarta since our first trip in 2002 and it was even better the second time. The food and drink were excellent and prepared with the love and joy that food should be prepared with. It's location right off the main street in PV made it very easy to find and once we were there we felt like we were at home. We even met a locals person share our table with and had great conversation as well as great food and drink. On our next visit, I'm confident that we'll return to Cafe de Olla!

I have nothing to say... Except for make sure that while in PV you visit this restaurant. Excellent service, food and a very local vibe. That you'll miss when you are back at home.

Features large inside trees and whimsical artwork many times for sale. A great stopover for simple authentic Mexican fare in addition to its name, clay pot cinnamon coffee, breakfast chilaquiles, bbq or Mexican combo platter 105p, huge seafood platter for 2 430p, octopus in garlic 90p, steaks 165p, carne asada 88p, ribs 95p, chiles rellenos 63p, tacos or tostadas 60p, best combo enchiladas 68p, chicken 85p, pork tamales in banana leaf 38p [Mindy loves them], twice-baked potatoes from the outside grill 15p, tasty tortilla soup 40p and guacamole 40p. Includes good crispy chips, salsa fresca and nopales [cactus] salad. Loud and busy in high season with long lines which move quickly and are sociable! Hi to Fermin,Tribi! No reservations or CC.

What can you say?Great value,fresh food and the friendliest resturant in town.Even when I lived in Puerto Vallarta this was regular stop on my evening walks.Must tries are Mexican plate,seafood plate and the margaritas.
