Maccheroni, Rome

the restaurant was very busy and had a nice buzz. Wine was cheap and drinkable. However, first course was badly over-salted. waitress did not care, just took it away. Waitress never smiled, no rapport. Second course (pressed grilled chicken breast) was lukewarm, grilled vegetables were cold. We saw a waiter apply liberal dose of salt to a plate which was due to be carried to a table: surely that is the Chef's job. We complained to the "manageress" about the food but she was not interested. Diners at both tables either side were sending back half full plates. Food is not expensive (by Roman standards) but not cheap either. Quality was very poor. Because we had complained, the manageress came running after us as we left, shouting like some fish-wife. Not recommended.

For a late lunch, it was the place to go, as the normal lunch crowd had departed. Extensive menu of fresh items was all available, along with some very nice local/unlabeled wine. Meats and pasta were great, appetizers were v. good, so much so, we had no room for dessert.
