Anniversary Stay
Just returned from a one-night stay (May 23, 2004) at the La Mansion in San Antonio. Overall, an absolutely wonderful hotel, but definetly pricey.
We arrived at 1pm and our room was not yet ready. However, they promised to call on our cell phone when the room was completed and that they would deliver the bags up to the room as well. The called us around 2pm as promised, and the bags were waiting on us in the room.
We were in room 525 overlooking the riverwalk. This was a deluxe king riverview room. The room had a private balcony, but note that their private balcony's are very small with uncomfortable wooden chairs. The rooms with shared balconies actually have larger balcony areas. The private balcony rooms are a bit larger than the shared balcony rooms.
Room was decorated nicely, exceptionally clean, and the bath was marble. Only complaint was the noise. Very little sound insulation from the riverwalk below, but part of the advantage of the hotel is being right on the riverwalk, so it is a trade-off.
For our anniversary dinner, we dined at the hotel's Las Canarias. Superb food and service, but pricey. Dinner for two (no alcohol) ran over $100 with tip. I had the veal chop, and it melted in your mouth. We had a table for two overlooking the riverwalk. Very romantic.
Would definetly stay here again, but would go for a less expensive room without the riverwalk view.
