California Suites Hotel, San Diego

great value for your money, but realize that it's not a hotel but a nice motel. the service was friendly. but the 1980's furniture and rough towels do knock it down a knotch. overall though, a nice stay.

I don't recommend staying here, and I wouldn't have BEFORE the roaches started running around my room. I have stayed in many hotels, and I have never had to go fetch my own towels from the lobby...which I had to actually leave the property to get to after 10 pm. The location is convenient to the freeway, and it was cheap, but take a good look around before you settle in, and make sure you have all the towels you need before you have to walk down the street for them late at night.

We stayed here for the value, and were very pleased. The gardens were very nice,really deceptive if you just look at the outside of the motel which is a bit drab. The pool was clean and not crowded. Our room was a little small and dated, but very clean, and did not smell like smoke at all. Also, there was no loud partying, it was a safe place for a family to stay. The breakfast was good and at no extra cost, lots of fruit and choices. Shopping, movies and dining choices were nearby.

This is the worst flea bag hotel I have ever had the non-pleasure of spending time in. The room "1607" was labeled "Non Smoking", which is a joke because it felt like I was sleeping in an ash try. Do what ever you have to stay somewhere else, your car even! Trust me...

all in all, the stay was great. the rooms weren't huge, but they had a microwave, and fridge. the garden area of the complex made it look like a converted apartment complex. nice to sit and relax in. the people at the front desk were awesome too.

the only thing i found lacking was the shower head. although there was incredible water pressure coming through the faucet, the showerhead wasn't impressive at all, and took a while to take the shower (maybe they need new ones, or the existing needs cleaning out). also the temp of the water kept changing all over the place from cold to hot. not sure what was up with that.

stayed in a room right next to the gate, but didn't hear anyone going in or out, so the rooms had good insulation against sound.

for San Diego, it was inexpensive and nice....

This place was clean. But it's not a hotel. It's a motel, hiding on the "hotel" name, and the "suites" are not that great. The appliances are really old, but they are "getting by" by saying that these rooms have suites. Anyway, good cheap place, but definitley not as great as it looks like in the photos.

Honestly you will have a hard time finding a cheaper place to stay in San Diego unless it is one of the really scary "hotels" downtown that people live in. For what you are paying you can't expect the rooms to be brand new and perfect, but they are decent and comfortable. The landscaping is really great. If you have the money, stay somewhere else - if you are on a budget you will be super happy to stay there.
