Playa de El Camello, Santander

This beach is in El Sardinero, near Avenida de la Reina Victoria. Playa de Camello (Camel Beach) gets its name from the curious rock formation pictured above, carved out by the sea. Opposite the shore, the little island of Peña Vieja was once used as an observation post for guiding ships in and out of the harbor. Now it is the setting for a monument to Neptune. This artificial beach, with its fine golden sand, is some 500 meters long and takes up about 15000 square meters in total. The beach and sea are easily accessed. Facilities here include nearby parking, showers and life guards. The sand is cleaned every day and the beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for its high standards and clear water.
