While visiting the wine country, don't miss the spectacular beaches of Sonoma County. Head north up Highway 1 from Bodega Bay (made famous by a shreaking Tippi Hendren in the movie The Birds) to Jenner, winter home of migrating seal lions and their pups. There are several pull-offs and free public beaches along the way; some offer amenities like picnic tables and restrooms, while others offer just sand, crashing waves and those breathtaking California sunsets. Stop often; it's difficult to keep your eyes on the winding road.
