Sao Paulo

A trip from 22 August 2007 to 27 August 2007
Though this was a short trip and I did not get much chance … More
Though this was a short trip and I did not get much chance to travekl around the city, I had an amazing 4 days at Sao Paulo. I had gone to Brazil to participate in a Home & Living Fair. The one major down side for me was the long travelling time. I was travelling from Chennai in south India and it took me mopre than a day to reach Sao paulo.

We first travelled from Chennai to Frankfurt, were in transit for 5 hours before our flight to Sao Paulo. Upon reaching Sao Paulo I headed straight for the Novotel hotel at Zaki Narchi, just a 10 minute car ride from the exhibition centre.

As soon as I was shown to my room I chnaged my clothes and fell asleep within seconds.

The rest of the day was spent on unpacking, preparing for the exhibition, eating dinner at the hotel and going to bed early. The food was simple but nice - the soup and desserts were especially tasty. The food was excellent throughout the trip, Sao Paulo being known for its bakery. However, I was very disappointed to know that the fruits sold were not of very good quality and were expensive. Italian food can be found easily as there are several Italian immigrants. Brazilian food is predominantly non-vegetarian and baing a vegetarian I was unfortunately unable to try it, but was saved by pasta and pizza. We ate in a very nice Italian chain restaurant called Verdi.

Shopping is also good here. Go to Sao Paulo if you want to buy shoes. There are hundreds of shoe shops and they are value for money. I loved the many shopping malls I visited - Morumbi, Ibuerapuera, etc. They have international chains such as C&A as well as local brands.

On the whole the trip was a great experience and I certainly want to go back.

New Journal Entry

Day 1: Hotel Novotel - From the airport straight to the hotel. After our long journey, I am very tired and extremely sleepy as I cannot sleep on flights. Checking in took us 45 minutes as there are quite a lot of people and not all of the receptionists understood English!

Day 2: We got up early and had a big, delicious breakfast.  I still miss that breakfast a lot! We then headed straight for the exhibition centre in our hired car. our driver was very polite and knowledgeable about the city but did not speak English, so we had a laugh trying to explain to him what we wanted.

On reaching our venue we found out that our exhibits had not arrived (they were being shipped). This posed a major problam as without our products our trip would be of no use. Fortunately our parcels 10 cartons arrived the next morning after a long argument with the Brazilian customs office.

For the next four days we would have our lovely breakfast and leave for the exhibition. It was very interesting to see the other exhibitors' products - from wall paintings to jewellery to kitchen utensils. Everyday we went to a new restaurant for dinner. We went to a lovely Mexican restaurant which was quite far from our hotel but they served the best Mexican food I have ever had.

On the last day we had a few hours to spare before our flight, so decided to drive to the city centre. We visited a couple of malls, ate pizza and cake as well as shopped for footware. I was also able to visit the Brazilian Stock exchange.
