Brighton for the weekend

Although Brighton was only a short trip from London , it was a thoroughly enjoyable break, great sea air, fantastic weather, great food, and stylish bars.

We stayed in a small boutique style hotel in Kemp Town - The White House. A great small establishment we about 8 rooms. The Room was small but perfectly proportioned, with nice touches like, kit kat chunky's on your pillow and Molton brown in the bathroom. The Location was great seconds from the sea and a short walk into town. They also provided a delicious breakfast – the smoked Salmon and scrambled eggs are a must!Image

Day 2 - Sea and Sun

After a relaxing meal in the quaint Kemp town on Friday night, we spent Saturday day soaking up the fantastic April! sunshine, strolling along the beach, discovering the marina (a little disappointing and commercial) and venturing into the Lanes for shopping and snacks. In the evening we ventured to a fantastic restaurant Riddles and Finns at around 9pm and had champagne, oysters and other tasty seafood snacks. The atmosphere is really special, right in the heart of the lanes, communal dining keeps it casual, yet delicately lit and opulent at the same time which creates a special comfortable environment. After some lazy grazing we wanted a cosy bar to retire for the night. On recommendation from the restaurant we headed to Blanche House, a small exclusive hotel in Kemp Town . A great find, a rather private affair with the majority of the cliental being from the hotel itself. They had an amazing cocktail list, usual, never tried before concoctions, delicious! A perfect place for a private bar, away from the queues and hustle and bustle of Brighton on a Saturday night.

Bike ride to Rottingdean

On Sunday we were faced with another full day of hot sunshine, so decided to hire bikes for the day. We rode all the way to Shoreham (a not so pretty ride) but enjoyable all the same. We then back tracked and took the recently developed coastal pathway to Rottingdean. A fantastic ride, easily manageable as it is all flat (apart from one large hill!). Rottingdean is a beautiful little town, where we took a well deserved break for drinks and snacks in a quaint country pub.

After an exhausting but enjoyable day we tucked into some obligatory fish and chips and sat on the beach to watch the sunset, and saw the amazing spectacle of the swallows descending on the derelict West Pier.

We regrettably got the train back Monday morning (an easy 1hr commute)- an really special break -I’d thoroughly recommend!Image
