Thursday 23rd August

Our first day in Hong Kong has been busy. We went to Hong Kong Island and walked for miles. All up hill too. We were trying to find the longest escalator in the world - we did and it was nothing special, a little bit boring if I'm honest, but finding it was fun.

The Peak Tour was ace! Image

It was quite scary going up on the tram and the skyscrapers looked as if they are leaning in due to the angle at which we were going up the mountain. When we got to the top the clouds had covered the view! We had a photograph super imposed onto a backdrop of the skyscrapers. Sods law that when we got to the bottom the cloud cleared. I did get to eat a burger king in the clouds though. We also vistied the botanical gardens, SoHo and  BoHo.

I was so tired when we got home that I went to bed and woke up at 1.30pm unable to sleep, sO we went out for a few beers as Hong Kong never sleeps. On the was home at 4am there was a amazing thunder storm.

I tried fresh squid and fish balls they were awful!

Like the last writer I too did National Service In HK. Like everyone who ever served there I have always wanted to return. I have a holiday booked for the end of the year. If you have never been, read all you can before you go. Try the Rough Guide book - v. good. Also cut out travel items from the weekend supplements which give useful tips. Best time to go is October/November. Avoid August/September like the plague: possible typhoons, not to mention mosquitoes.

I went to Hong Kong earlier on this year, it was amazing and the people were just lovely too. They couldnt do enough for you. The food I found very rich but still none the less just as lovely. There was 38+ of us, we did a trip round the island called the great race. Was the best way to get around the Island, either on foor, rail or using the trams. Highly recommend Stanley market, and if you can get to China, I would...I could go but the bars..they are fun:)

Hi, I went to HK almost 13 years ago with my then 2 yr old son - trying to hammer out some sort of working relationship with his father for all our futures! Spent two weeks there - it was a magical time...I did all of the above trips, plus loads of walking and eating. My little boy loved the Peak tram, we went up on it every day, he loved the sensation of it!
I would love to go back; to see if the magic is still there. I bought a multi-journey ticket for the MTR,and used it all the time; plus there is no better way to cross the harbour than by Star Ferry. You have perked me up with all your experiences!

My wife and I hope to go in November. I used to work on cruise ships and have been to almost every port in the world, except Hong Kong and Singapore. The skipper on the last ship that I was on, the Nevasa, told me that when he was doing the Hong Kong trips, a tailor came aboard at 08:00, measured him for a new uniform and delivered it at 16:00, cant wait. Your pickies and guide will be a great help for us to find our way around, thanks loads.

Im a travel agent and am going to Australia for 4 weeks in Feb 08 and stopping in Hong Kong with my husband, our 12 year old son and 15 month daughter on the way back. Ive been starting to wonder if Hong Kong was really suitable (weve done singapore before and didnt want to repeat our selves). Thanks for your photos and detail of your trip, im sure we will be just fine!! Have a great trip!!
