Thursday 23rd August

Our first day in Hong Kong has been busy. We went to Hong Kong Island and walked for miles. All up hill too. We were trying to find the longest escalator in the world - we did and it was nothing special, a little bit boring if I'm honest, but finding it was fun.

The Peak Tour was ace! Image

It was quite scary going up on the tram and the skyscrapers looked as if they are leaning in due to the angle at which we were going up the mountain. When we got to the top the clouds had covered the view! We had a photograph super imposed onto a backdrop of the skyscrapers. Sods law that when we got to the bottom the cloud cleared. I did get to eat a burger king in the clouds though. We also vistied the botanical gardens, SoHo and  BoHo.

I was so tired when we got home that I went to bed and woke up at 1.30pm unable to sleep, sO we went out for a few beers as Hong Kong never sleeps. On the was home at 4am there was a amazing thunder storm.

I tried fresh squid and fish balls they were awful!

Saturday 25th August 2007

Yesterday I was poorly sick!!!! I spent most of the day in bed, but dragged myself out for the symphony of lights. It was absolutly brilliant! Basically music is played and all the buildings light up to it, it was fantastic.

"This spectacular multimedia display, already named the “World’s Largest Permanent Light and Sound Show” by Guinness World Records, has been further expanded to include 43 buildings on both sides of Victoria Harbour.

The show creates an all-round vision of coloured lights, laser beams and searchlights performing a stunning, unforgettable spectacle synchronised to music and narration that celebrates the energy, spirit and diversity of Hong Kong."

Today we have been to Lantau Island to see the bronze Buddha, it was unreal. You can't tell how big it is from the photos, but it was rather special. The bus ride home was rather special too, I thought I was going to die!

We have also been to see a 4 D movie and to the night market.

Wednesday 29th August 2007

Over the last few days we have done everything left to do in Hong Kong. On Monday we went back over to Hong Kong Island to see the racecourse and then had a meal on the famous floating Chinese restaurant. I order chicken, and it came just as that, with a head, beak and brains! I still ate it , but not the head of course.

Yesterday we visited Macau which was very different from Hong Kong. Alot more laid back. We visited the casinos,ImageImage St. Austine Square and the famous statue of  the goddess A - ImageMa .

I considered doing a bungee jump from the top of Macua Tower, but decided to wait until New Zealand as it is bigger and I had a skirt on.Image

Hong Kong is one of my favourite places. My first visit was 25yrs ago and I spent three weeks there and I thought it was absolutely fascinating. I try to visit whenever I can and I was there about 3 yrs. ago. The hotels are fabulous and shopping is still quite inexpensive and food is good too.I usually go to Hong Kong and then onto Thailand which is a favourite of mine too.

Hi,I'm Chinese.I'm very glad to hear that you have a good trip in HongKong. It's true that HK is one of the most beautiful and modern cities in China. It has a lot of skyscrapers as Shanghai,There are more trees on the both side of the road than any other cities in China.UK helps Hk a lot. Thanks to UK,HK improves very quickly. But I advise you to visit other cities like:Shanghai,Nanjing,Dalian,Chengdu and Hangzhou, they are all very good too.

Hi, I spent 6 years in the New Territories with British Forces, we were stationed at Tai Lam and had the sea just across the road from the camp. Spent may a happy weekend on Lan Tau Island which was just across the water from us. Have tested the beds in the Penninsula Hotel on many occasions. I note that not many people seem to write about the New Territories, shame on you all. Whilst I spent my time there it was very unspoilt but having looked at several DVD's of Hong Kong it has changed beyond all recognition. I suppose that is progress?.ugh.
