After the short flight (1hr 20mins) from London Heathrow we arrived at Zurich Airport. Upon arrival we could instantly see the Swiss efficiency that the Switzerland is famous for.
We were greeted in the baggage hall by Marc from The Swiss Holidays who excellently performed his role as "Our Swiss Travel Advisor." Marc gave us all the information and advice that we required for our stay in Switzerland including a quick insight into some of the local delicacies that we should sample. He especially recommended the Raclette and Cheese Fondue, which we enjoyed later in our trip.
Within less than an hour we were heading for Interlaken, our first destination. We opted for first class rail travel in Switzerland although we found that the standard of both classes was excellent. However, the 1st class carriages were a lot quieter which added to the pleasantness of our journey. Switzerland really offers a quality rail service that we can only dream of back home. We enjoyed a quick snack in the train’s buffet car during the journey via Bern to Interlaken.
Today’s journey concluded in Interlaken, the “Gateway to Jungfrau.” At first the town appeared surprisingly quiet. Our hotel the Hotel Carlton-Europe was just a few footsteps away from the station.
