Noelle and Hilary call upon their local knowledge of Dublin ’s history and social scene to continue the journey to Ireland ’s capital city…
Cow’s Lane is located in the oldest part of Dublin city in the Temple Bar area.
The ‘Designer Mart’ market as featured in the video is in its second year and now showcases 30 artists and designers from around the country. The outdoor market runs every Saturday 10am – 5pm and offers an exciting and broad range in jewelry, fashion, furniture design, visual art and photography. This market in Temple Bar is an ideal location to pick up a one-off unique piece from the creator at an affordable price.
Located in a leafy courtyard, it’s an oasis of calm in this busy area of the city. It is the perfect place to relax with a savoury tart and a glass of wine selected from The Cake Café’s carefully chosen wine list. The courtyard walls are adorned with funky visual art made from recycled bottle caps, music CD’s and other unusual items.
The Cake Café is located in the city centre in the Daintree Building , Pleasants Place , Dublin 2.
St Michan's Church is the oldest Parish Church which is still in weekly use on the Northside of the River Liffey. It was originally built in 1095 and was rebuilt and restored over the years.
The peculiar dry atmospheric conditions in the vaults have resulted in the mummification of the corpses and visitors may see the result of this mummification on their guided tour.
Also on display in the vaults are the death mask of Wolfe Tone and the coffins of the 1798 rebels John and Henry Sheares.
The Shebeen Chic is more than a restaurant; it’s a unique and funky place, offering nightly traditional music sessions, a weekly swap shop, knitting nights and drawing sessions, and that’s just a sample of what’s on offer.
The restaurant and bar occupy two floors of a redbrick Victorian building on Lower George’s Street in Dublin ’s City Centre. Its unusual interior hints at the postmodern, with walls and ceiling ornamented by random antique bits and pieces like lamp shades, old pots and pans, brassware and recycled clothing. The seating is intimate and consists of quirkily restored couches and chairs.
The staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is laidback and relaxing. The menu offers a typically Irish selection, with plenty of variety, from fresh seafood to boxty and crubeens.
Howth is a picturesque coastal village situated on the scenic Howth peninsula, just nine miles north of Dublin city centre. At its heart is Howth Harbour , with its fishing trawlers and yachting marina. Wildlife enthusiasts will adore this area, particularly Ireland ’s Eye and its bird sanctuary, which boasts guillemots, razorbills, fulmars, gulls and gannets to name just a few. If you’re lucky, you may even see grey seals diving for fish just offshore. The Howth Peninsula with its lighthouses, beaches, walks, Martello Towers and portal tomb possesses some of the finest scenery in Ireland with magnificent panoramas over Dublin Bay .
Howth is easily accessible by bus and train from Dublin ’s city centre.
