Talk about this trip (10)
I've just got back from egypt with my family & it was the best holiay we have had, And we have been all over.
We stayed a week on the nile then upto hurghada for a week, What an holiday the cruise was, we got up early nearly every day to get to the tombs, temples and museums.
But it was well worth it, every trip was so different, the valley of the kings is a must for anyone to see, How the ancient egyptians did this is just amazing, we had a guide called haggag(haggie) and what a bloke he was, what he didn't know wasn't worth knowing.
Its true the locals do beg a lot but what do you expect we have everything commpared to them, paying 1 egyptian pound(10p) for the toilet is nothing & it will feed them all week from the tourists using them, These people are very friendly and would help you with anything you only have to ask.
Reccomend this to anyone.

I went to Egypt August 2003, one of my best holiday experiences. Cruised the nile for the first week and took in all the sites of the tombs, temples and met with the local people.. Second week was spent in Luxor and flew up to Cairo to see the pyramids and Sphynx, how fantastic. I wish every one a fantastic holiday and hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Will soon return there

I have been to Egypt many times, seeing Aswan, Luxor, Giza, a Nile cruise and also the Red Sea. If you are going to Egypt for the first time and you are interested mainly in the history side (as I am) then I recommend either stay in the beautiful town of Luxor(must see Luxor temple and Karnak temple - both beautifully preserved considering they were both built around 3,500 years ago!!)Luxor is on the banks of the Nile(beautiful scenery), or stay in Cairo (must see the pyramids and sphinx at Giza!!)Cairo is much faster paced and manic traffic, but worth the experience. If you want a relaxing beach holiday with the choice of different excursions (including Luxor or Cairo)then look at places to stay in the Red Sea(the further north you go is more built up and caters more for the tourists). The Red Sea is also fantastic for Diving. If I go to Egypt with my Fiance (who has no interest in the history, but is a diver) we go to te Red Sea so have can dive while I do the excursions. There's something for everyone in Egypt.

Top tips; the money(notes)are not replaced when they get worn and torn. Take with you a small pack of antibacterial wipes, every time you handle the money - use them!! It is a fact that most of the upset tummies are actually from handling the money without washing hands(not always the food), it's not always possible to wash hands, so take the wipes with you. Visa; you can get a visa either before you go or when you get to the Airport in Egypt. If you don't mind a queue then you can get it there. Pens!!!!!! Pens are worth more to the locals then then 'bakshee' because pens are the most expensive item in schools. So if you havn't got small change - give them a pen.(Doesn't apply in the Red Sea unless you do an excursion to Luxor or Giza pyramids). Photos; if you go to a temple there are a few local people there who are willing to help you. They are available to help you if you need it, at a small cost. Just be aware that if you take a photo and one of them is in the picture then they expect you to give them small change for 'taking their picture'. BIGGEST TIP; if you do have an upset tummy - don't take Immodium!!!! This sounds crazy I know but food in different countries(including Britain)have certain bacteria(good and bad). Immodium is great while you are in European countries because it fights the bacteria, but the food in Egypt has a different bacteria to ours(good and bad), so Immodium can't fight it and will just temporarily 'stop it'. The best thing to take in Egypt(if you want to get rid of it completely) is Antinal. Yellow packet known everywhere in Egypt. It has immediate effect and you will feel better and continue with you holiday with an hour!! Tissue; take some tissue for use in the toilets. If you don't then there is someone there to give you some, but again they expect a small tip(again this doesn't apply in the Red Sea, just during excursions or in local toilets). Water; drink lots of it!!! Make sure the bottles are sealed before you drink them. :-) :-) :-) :-)
