Went to Egypt this summer and it was fantastic, budget travel organised is so well, our guides were brilliant, first week on cruise boat on Nile from Luxor to Aswan with all trips included, we paid extra to go ballooning at daybreak, unforgettable, we went to Abu Simbel leaving at 3am really exciting stuff. My friend and I were treated like queens by the staff of the boat and by the guides, we are women in our early 50's. The second week we were in a hotel in Luxor, beautiful pool etc, The Mercure, would recommend to everyone, the museum in Luxor is very good, and the Karnak Temple by day and by night is wonderful. It was v hot but it is Egypt, you have to bring plenty of water with you, and yes you have to give plenty of tips but 20egyptian pounds is not even 3 euros. The people whilst poor are very friendly and seem to have an Irish type sense of humour which cracked us up. It can be annoying when trying to go for a walk they way you are annoyed by the locals but they do it with a smile!! We flew to Cairo for a day and we regret it wasnt for longer, a very vibrant city with all sorts of people, rich and poor existing there but again v friendly. We would love to go to Cairo with empty suitcases and just buy, buy, buy especially materials, they were wonderful, so Egypt is the place to go if you like to be spoilt.
