We have compiled the following two-day tour that introduces you to what we believe are the best offerings Tuscany has to offer.
Most people think of medieval frescoes when you mention Tuscany, but this region is also home to some stunning coastline. So while the crowds flock to Florence, turn the other cheek and head to Livorno. From here, it’s a short hop to San Gimignano and on to Siena, before nipping into neighbouring Umbria, where you’ll pass by the Lago Trasimeno, with its jaw-dropping views over the voluptuous countryside. By now, your significant other should be putty in your hands. If not, Tuscany has a few more tricks up its sleeve, in the form of Arezzo, Empoli and Lucca…
I agree you're never too old. We met a lovely man from Manchester traveling alone on a cruise to Naples, Athens, Kusadasi, Istanbul and Alexandria/Cairo last winter. He was 78. I find cruising to be very relaxing. Unpack once and take some of the more strenuous tours by bus instead of on foot. Many leave from Southampton. Perhaps you should give it a try :)
just back from Tuscany; based in Florence for 6 days; day trips to Siena; Pisa and Rome then 4 days on the beach to recover at Pesaro; best to book museum tickets in advance on line; we travelled by bus; local train and eurostar; again buy tickets 1 day in advance to save hassle on the day; stations have machines in English to buy tickets; rea place to visit
