Notes
It's an alday trip and it's quite far away, but it's a must see. Maybe the train would be best.

Transportation:

Railway: To get to Leshan by train, get off at Emei station. This station is 10 kilometers (about six miles) away from the gate of Mt. Emei, and 31 kilometers (about 19 miles) away from Leshan City.

Road: It is 162 kilometers (about 100 miles) from Chengdu City to Leshan City if one travels by the expressway. Emei City and Leshan City, with a distance of 31kilometers (about 19 miles) are connected by a freeway, and there is a regular bus every ten minutes. Besides, there are buses to Chongqing City, Neijiang City, Zigong City, Yibin City and Ya'an City from Leshan City. Buses to nearby counties are also available.

By water: There are very many ferries to the site of Leshan Giant Buddha every day. Ferries to Yibin City, Luzhou City and Chongqing City are available at Leshan Port.

Shopping
Notes
Located behind the Drum tower is Xian's night market. The area is a large shopping district made up of small lanes and alleys. The buildings are built in the architectural style of the Qing dynasty, and are quite colorful. At night, many venders, peddlers and snack sellers set up booths along the narrow streets to sell local arts and foods to people. The shops sell Xian specialties like art supplies, traditional fans, tea shadow puppets, and snacks. There are many tea houses where visitors can relax, have a cup of tea, and watch people. The snack venders along the streets sell local cuisine. Since they are located right on the streets, the fantastic smells are everywhere and even people who are full, cannot help but buy something to snack on. The people are very friendly, and the prices are very reasonable (after bargaining). Near the old streets is a large market comprised of tents. Dried fruits, pickled snacks, and touristy type items can be found there.

Yes, it’s overrun by free spending tourists, but Yaxiu is an unavoidable fixture in the life of a serious shopper. It has a good selection of "brand-name" underwear, jeans, jackets, shoes, sports equipment, bags and souvenirs. Don’t forget to bargain ruthlessly. Some of the tailors on the third floor have a large following, as does the Creative Nail Beauty Salon on the fourth floor.
