Description

A classic fixture in Vancouver's West End, this hotel is a historic landmark. Its traditional European-style facade is almost completely obscured by ivy. Constructed in 1912, it was originally one of the tallest apartment buildings in the city. It was later converted to a hotel during the Great Depression of 1929 and re-named after the builder's daughter. The dark wood interiors evoke the old European feel. The building's beach side location offers ocean views and access. Sitting across from English Bay, it is a short distance from Stanley Park.

Always stay here
By ,
Super location - close to Stanley Park with easy access to walking/cycling trail that goes around the park. Right on English Bay with all it's activities. Very reasonably priced. It is an older hotel, so some of the bathroom fixtures are slightly outdated, but most of the rooms are spacious and the service is friendly. I always stay here when in Vancouver - it's very good value.

Home Away from Home
By ,
A place to stay that offers friendly and knowledgable staff with a sandy relaxing beach steps from the front door. Just sitting on a bench timing your breathing to the motion of the waves or kicking your shoes off and putting your feet up in the quiet comfort of your room after a busy day, allows time to put the world in focus. You'll be looking for opportunities to get back. I can hardly wait.

Sylvia by the Beach
By ,
Just at the end of Beach Avenue, overlooking English Bay, and an easy stroll from Denman Ave. with its restaurants, and night life, or from Stanley park with its aquarium, trails, and beaches, the Sylvia is an ideal pied-a-terre for budget-conscious visitors staying in Vancouver. The ivy-covered former apartment building has quirky room features, including in-room living-room areas or second bedrooms in some rooms, and a surprising number of in-room amenities for such a moderately priced hotel. This is our favorite place to stay in Vancouver.
