Faceless luxury

We have stayed here twice with our 4 children. Unlike most clientele, we are NOT extremely rich, so cannot afford a suite. We have two adjoining rooms, and the highlight every evening is smuggling mattresses from one room to the other so my husband and I can enjoy a romantic evening while the 4 children sleep next door (the rooms are plenty big enough for 4 beds!)
The breakfast is FANTASTIC - we compete to see how many courses we have. We generally spend at least an hour eating breakfast (which is included in the price!) then have chips by the pool for lunch before trekking over to Venice for the evening. The hotel restaurants are prohibitively expensive (esp for children) Oddly though, the room service is not and is also a wonderful experience - silver trolleys with domed dishes and waiters who lift the dishes on cue...
It is really lovely for the children - the pool means that they can enjoy themselves and unwind without having to sightsee all the time.
The downside is the organisation - for the amount it costs, it is extremely inefficient (our first stay the locks kept breaking and then there was no hot water! The second was better) and the staff are not open to complaints. However, maybe this is just the Italian way!
The fact it is on its own island and that you have to get the boat everywhere makes it a very special place. It's never been crowded yet.
We will return...
